Specialist by-and-for support for domestic abuse, sexual violence and harmful practices
Working within the Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) framework, supporting victim-survivors of all sexes and genders aged 16 and over.
About Rosa
We are a specialist by-and-for organisation supporting victim-survivors from Black and minoritised ethnic communities who are experiencing or have recently experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence and harmful practices, including honour-based abuse, forced marriage and cutting/female genital mutilation (FGM).
We welcome victim-survivors aged 16 and over, of all sexes and genders, across all protected characteristics and immigration statuses, including those with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF).
We recognise the additional barriers victim-survivors may face and are committed to providing inclusive, culturally responsive and accessible support.
What we do
Specialist IDVA casework and advocacy
Rosa will provide specialist Independent Domestic Violence Adviser (IDVA) casework, one-to-one advocacy and trauma-informed support for victim-survivors who are experiencing or have recently experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence and harmful practices, including honour-based abuse, forced marriage and cutting/female genital mutilation (FGM).
Our approach recognises the complexities of high-risk abuse, polyvictimisation, multi-perpetrator abuse and complex safeguarding needs. Our interventions include:
- Direct interventions: individual risk assessment, safety planning, emotional and practical support, specialist advocacy and ongoing casework tailored to the needs and circumstances of victim-survivors.
- Indirect interventions: multi-agency coordination, professional consultation, liaison with statutory and specialist services, safeguarding collaboration and advocacy on behalf of victim-survivors, where appropriate and in accordance with consent, confidentiality and safeguarding requirements.
Our approach is holistic, person-centred, culturally responsive and trauma-informed, promoting safety, empowerment and access to appropriate support.
Wellbeing and recovery activities
Our wellbeing and recovery activities aim to promote emotional wellbeing, reduce isolation and strengthen social connections. Planned activities include:
- Creative and wellbeing workshops
- Peer connection and community-based activities
- Confidence-building and empowerment opportunities
- Activities supporting emotional wellbeing and longer-term recovery
Community awareness and capacity building
We will work alongside minoritised ethnic communities and community organisations to:
- Raise awareness of VAWG, domestic abuse, sexual violence and harmful practices
- Deliver community awareness sessions, workshops and outreach activities
- Strengthen community capacity to recognise and respond safely to abuse
- Improve access to specialist advice, support and referral pathways
Professional training and awareness raising
Our work will include specialist training, workshops, professional consultation and awareness-raising activities for statutory agencies, voluntary organisations, community groups and other professionals.
Our focus includes culturally responsive practice, early identification, safeguarding and effective responses to domestic abuse, sexual violence, harmful practices, polyvictimisation and multi-perpetrator abuse.
Research and consultation
As part of our wider organisational work, Rosa aims to undertake research, consultation and community engagement to:
- Identify barriers to accessing specialist support
- Amplify victim-survivor voices and lived experiences
- Inform service development, policy and professional practice
- Contribute to evidence-informed approaches to preventing and responding to violence and abuse
- Strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing
Our approach
Our work is grounded in an anti-racist, intersectional feminist, trauma-informed, survivor-centred and survivor-led approach.
We recognise that victim-survivors may face intersecting barriers relating to race, ethnicity, gender, disability, faith, immigration status and socioeconomic circumstances.
We are committed to equitable access, anti-discriminatory practice, victim-survivor participation and effective partnership working.
